# Extra Hour - a clock-change sleep ladder for the whole household, and a plan for the change day > The clocks go back on Sunday November 1, 2026 in the US and Canada (Sunday October 25, 2026 in the UK and the EU; in 2026 the US change night is Halloween). Babies, toddlers and school children wake by their body clock, so an unplanned fall-back weekend usually means a 5 am start. List who sleeps in the house - age group, usual bedtime, wake time, naps, the alarm on school or work mornings, and a strategy (step a little each night, meet halfway, or switch on the day) - and the browser builds a night-by-night ladder for each person: how many of the 60 minutes their body has absorbed each night and what that means on the wall clock for bedtime, wake time and naps. It flags steps too big for the age, school mornings an alarm cuts short, children up 50+ minutes early, naps too close to bed, ladders that never reach the new clock and usual schedules under the recommended range (H1, H2...), with bump points - free. Then one metered run reads the ladder: edits to it, a fix for every flag, a plan and cues per person, the change day hour by hour, and a fridge note. Every reply cites the page's ids and is checked against the ladder. URL: https://extra-hour.skillsafe.ai/ API: https://extra-hour.skillsafe.ai/api.html Built on the SkillSafe skill @huifer/sleep-analyzer (from the WellAlly health collection: read a person's sleep against age-appropriate norms, spot what will disturb it, and give practical, non-diagnostic sleep-hygiene steps). ## What runs free in the browser (ladderkit.js, ladderview.js) - Up to 8 people. Age groups: baby (4-12 months), toddler (1-2), preschooler (3-5), school-age (6-12), teen (13-17), adult. Times accept 19:00, 7pm or 7:30 pm; naps as 12:30-14:00, comma-separated. - The change: fall back or spring forward, a date (presets worked out by rule for the chosen direction: US & Canada - 2nd Sunday in March, 1st in November; UK & Europe - last Sundays of March and October; south-east Australia - 1st Sundays of October and April; New Zealand - last Sunday of September, 1st of April. The page defaults to the next change for the visitor's time zone, and "Start my own" swaps the sample for a blank household), 0-7 nights before and 1-5 after, a 10/15/20/30-minute step. Night D0 is the evening before the clocks move. - Strategies: gradual (one step a night, finishing by D0 when there are enough nights), split (30 minutes on the change weekend, then 15 a night), switch (straight onto the new clock on D+1). Tap any night to nudge one person's bedtime a step earlier or later; hand edits are kept until you undo them. - Recommended total sleep per 24 hours, naps included, is from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (children: 12-16 h at 4-12 months, 11-14 h at 1-2, 10-13 h at 3-5, 9-12 h at 6-12, 8-10 h at 13-18; adults 7 h or more). The step limits (15 minutes a night for babies to preschoolers; 30 fall / 20 spring for school-age; 60 fall / 30 spring for teens and adults) and the nap-to-bed gaps (2.5 h baby, 4 h toddler, 5 h preschooler) are this page's own rules of thumb, not research findings. Bump points: high 6, medium 3, low 1. - Exports: Markdown, a ladder CSV, an .ics calendar of bedtime reminders (floating local times), plan JSON and a printable fridge chart. ## The metered task (model gpt-terra) - `ladder` - verdict `smooth` (no high or medium flags), `bumpy` (medium flags only) or `rework` (a high flag; edits required). Returns edits `[{member, night, offset, why, cite}]` (offset = minutes absorbed that night, 0-60), hot_spots `[{id, fix, cite}]`, people `[{member, plan, cues[], cite}]`, day_of `[{time, text, who[], cite}]` on the new clock, fridge_note and caveats. - House rules: only what the page gives; no diagnosis; never a medicine, supplement or dose (melatonin included) - ask a doctor or pharmacist; nothing that changes how or where a baby sleeps. `LadderKit.reconcile` re-scores the ladder after the suggested edits (they must lower the bump points and never add a high flag), checks the verdict against the flags, that every high and medium flag has a fix and every person a plan, that change-day times are readable, that every cited id is on the page, and calls out any dose or a sleep aid mentioned without a doctor. ## Notes - A planning aid, not medical advice. Check your local clock-change rules. Sample names are made up. - Saved ladders go to the signed-in user's own collection (`ladders`), only when they press save.
